Is Cold Spring HGC the only HGC targeted by MCPS for denying entrance to MS magnet programs?

Are students in other down county HGCs also denied entrance to the MS magnet? Why only Cold Spring HGC was discussed in the 600+ posts?

It would be interesting to hear from other clusters aside from Cold Spring as to what their admissions results are? Having said that, I think Cold Spring was hit the hardest -- i.e. to go from ~25 kids being accepted in years past to 2 is drastic no matter how you dice it.

The first 15 pages of that thread discusses non-admission into magnets from many ES, but Cold Spring is NOT mentioned. The remainder of the thread discusses admission results from many schools, including Cold Spring.

Wow, that's crazy. I didn't see the other thread, and we're at Barnsley. But, WTF?

Is “targeted” the right word? Oakview in the DCC had a huge drop in acceptances as well. Not sure the exact numbers.

Oak view and Barnsley were hit hard as well. Hope insider parents could yield more numbers for comparison.

I’m confused. What thread are you referring to? We’re at Cold Spring so I’d love to know what is going on.

So was Pine Crest, which feeds to Sligo, SIMS, and Eastern, maybe others.

Maybe it is just that they are taking more non-CES kids all around? Maybe all the CESs were hit hard?

Wish there was more transparency or a true cut-off versus this ambiguity.

The other thread says 4000 invited to test this time around. No clear numbers on how many did test, but suggestions are 2 to 3 times as many kids as last year.

Next year parents should prepare their kids more for the application process and testing. The magnet program will only get more competitive as more people find out about it. At least 2 students were prepared from CS.

Hundreds of "crossboard" 99s and only 200 spots. 2 students from CS were prepared to get two of those spots. These programs are competitive, if you are not preparing your kids as other parents are preparing theirs, your odds of getting in decrease significantly. Or move to another school that makes a kids 99 stand out differently from a school that has 20 students that also all scored 99s.

Almost certainly not.
