I got a cheap one at BB&B several years ago and the bristles are all sideways. My parents had one they got in the early 70's and kept for decades that never had that problem. I need to scrub my potatoes of their dirt! |
OXO vegetable brush. |

For potatoes, make sure you get one with very stiff bristles. The softer ones work for mushrooms and similar, but aren't strong enough for root vegetables. |
Yeah, I think the one I got had wimpy bristles. An upgrade is definitely in order. |
OP here, with an update. I got this: https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-Natural-Bristle-Vegetable/dp/B00004OCKX/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1523238024&sr=1-2&keywords=oxo+vegetable+brush
I've used it 3-5 times and already the bristles are totally bent. This thing is a piece of shit. I need something else. I know it was only $5, but it makes me want to cry to have wasted that money. |
I’ve been cooking and eating potatoes my entire life and I’ve never owned a special tool for this and I’m still alive somehow. |
There are several other brushes in amazon with higher ratings, why did you get this one? I have no idea where I got them but I have two vegetable brushes with wooden handles that I’ve had forever. I don’t think it should be as difficult as you’re making it. Something from dollar tree would probably be fine. |
I have a weird relationship with potatoes, so to be honest it doesn't surprise me that I'm having trouble with potato-related things. I bought the least expensive one that seemed like it would work. I know OXO is a good brand for kitchen stuff. The one I had before this was a POS dollar store one that also had completely bent bristles. Maybe I'm being unrealistic in my bristle-related hopes and dreams. But I had a vision, a vision of the potato scrubber my parents got in the 60's that they STILL USE, that would work perfectly. |
Doesn't it have traces of soap on it? Wouldn't the taste transfer? Not to mention how germy those sponges are ... I second the yuck of the PP |
