| I've seen fast food restaurants hire at 15, but the rules are very strict. There are a lot of things they aren't allowed to do. Fryers are off-limits, tomato slicers, etc. |

I started lifeguarding at 15 and had a blast. My friends and I all got assigned the same pool which was a ton of fun. You got paid to be with your friends at the pool all day. The downfall is that there's a lot of cleaning (bathrooms, skimmers, vacuuming, etc.) and you have to be a pretty mature 15 year old because it just takes a second for someone to get hurt and need your help. I had a rescue my second week on the job and almost missed it because I didn't see the kid fall in the pool. He was two and immediately submerged. His mom found him and just pointed to the bottom of the pool frozen with fear. Scared the heck out of me but fortunately he was okay when I got to him. |

| Pizza delivery places. DD answered the phone and took orders. Years later it remained a talking point on her resume. People could relate. Attention to detail, under stress. Work Permit required at that age for any work. Work Permits mandate protections --- no late hours, many, many safeguards including, one we didn't expect, she wasn't allowed to use a knife, thus the role of taking phone orders. |
