I'm a week into the stomach flu and down 8lbs (some is water weight I'm sure, but I've also been able to eat basically toast and bananas and nothing else so some is likely also fat). I've been trying to lose my last 10lbs of baby weight - is this a silver lining to this miserable experience or will it come right back when I'm better? |
Mine came back, but now I am working to get it off again and having good success. |
Last spring I lost 10 lbs after a week with the flu. 5 came back within 2-3 days of recovery, as soon as I could hold fluids down. The other 5 stayed off. Silver lining indeed. |
LOL, I got giardiasis in Uganda years ago and was sick for 6 months. Im 5'9". Started at 150#s, went down to 110lbs. Once I got better quickly bounced to 130 where I stayed for years. |
I'm only one stomach flu away from my goal weight |
Haha! I was just thinking about that line! |
I lost 4 lbs. it I’m sure it’ll come back on. I was sweating so much with each puking episode, I know it was all water weight. |
I lost 5 lbs with a two day flu, three weeks ago, and have kept it off. Totally reset my appetite. |
I lost 10 pounds due to flu a few years ago. I kept it off for about 4 years. It came back last fall when things got stressful, and I can't seem to get it off again. (But I'm not wishing for flu!) |
I think I have actually gained weight with the flu because I am a VERY active person but I have been either quarantining myself in the house or too sick to walk or exercise. Plus the fever and nausea from Tamiflu has me craving carbs. |
How much toast are we talking about. Bread is high in calories so it's probably 90% water weight that you lost. |
I had the flu this year and teach 9 classes a week at the gym, split between barbell and cycle and have very little even to lose and this flu kicked my ass! I lost 7lbs that I did not have to lose. Food was simply not something I was into for 10 days. I had to force myself to eat because I knew going 24hrs without food is not good for my body. i definitely did not crave carbs, could hardly bring myself to eat plain broth! |
My teen dd had the flu a few years ago (real flu, influenza, not a stomach virus) and it lasted a few weeks. We monitored closely with a doctor due to asthma but it was really bad. She went from about 112 to 97 lbs. She lost so much weight so fast, it was pretty scary, on top of the illness itself. It took a few months to gain the weight back, and that was trying with healthy foods and chocolate. |
Yes, so far. I lost 7 pounds the first two weeks of Jan. I kept it off my calorie counting. I found that if I stick to 1600 calories or less, I can keep the weight off. I've also found that if I stop counting (with the mistaken thinking that I can estimate it on my own), I slip up.

Lost 5 pounds last week and have been VERY good since. it feels sooo good to fit into my skinny jeans -- yes, with a HUGE wedgie, but I haven't fit in them since mommyhood. |
