OLSAT retest

Anonymous
Has anyone had their kids retested for the OLSAT? Did you go through the county or a testing facility?

My first grader got an overall score of 75 and her teacher suggested that she may not have understood the directions on one section of the test and they were only allowed to read the instructions once.
My other child is TAG identified and if this child isn't TAG I envision a lot of teasing and hurt feelings. She is much more academically gifted than her sibling so we were pretty surprised when she didn't qualify.

Please no flaming about having a "special snowflake". I have a pretty good grasp on reality and know my kid.

They test all students again in 3rd grade.

Thanks. I'm wondering if I can have her tested again now and pay out of pocket. My reasons for doing it are a bit complicated but if it is an option I'd like to explore it.

You can't have her retested with the OLSAT close to your previous test. It ruins the validity. I believe you could pay out of pocket for a WISC through a private psychologist and present those results to the TAG office.

I heard that you can petition for TAG status even without the needed OLSAT score. Don't know if its true, but worth asking about at a higher level like the principal or TAG coordinator for your school.

I totally get the hopeful thing about second kids following the TAG family pattern. So much easier to have them both in the program.

I'm not sure. Former teacher here. I've filled out the TAG nomination form and students get points for OLSAT scores and points for grades. I think it would depend on the individual OLSAT components ie. if the average is 75, but one of the components are in the 99th percentile, but another one is very low. Scores below 80 don't normally get to the second round of evaluation.
