DD is 8 and wants to take a horse summer camp. We live in Northern VA (Falls Church) but I work in MD so this location would be a lot more convenient as it would be on my way to work.
Where do you work that the Potomac Horse Center is in the way?? It’s pretty remote. Meadowbrook is closer in.

We do lessons at PHC, but not camp. However, I don't see a question in the post.
DD has done summer camps at Potomac (2x), Rock Creek (2x), and Calleva (3x). Potomac was her least favorite. She has loved Calleva and Rock Creek.
Yes to Potomac Horse Center! We live in Bethesda. My daughters went to Potomac Horse Center for summer camp. It was well worth the $ and a great introduction to riding. They gained valuable experience on caring for 'their" horses each experience was different but all came away with the biggest smiles. Huge appreciation! We still visit the stables in winter to visit their fav horses like Nacho.
It is fine. As far as camps. Do your kids ride already?

My beginner girls loved it, but my older daughter was frustrated her last year there. She didn’t have enough experience to move up to the next group, but felt the entry level was repetitive.
The horse knowledge instruction part doesn’t change (parts of a horse, etc), so I wouldn’t do it for many weeks. There is a show on the last day, and they make a big deal about the parents attending. It’s disruptive if you are using camp for childcare. That said my girls would cry on the last day, because they missed “their” horses. I’m glad we did it. |
