Valentine's Day is also Ash Wednesday

Valentine's Day falls on Ash Wednesday this year, which is a day of penance and fasting. Can I postpone the Valentine's Day stuff until Thursday? What are you doing?

FWIW, St. Valentine was a Christian martyr whom the Roman's beheaded.

Also, don't forget to donate an organ and ride a ferris wheel.

So much to do that day, according to https://www.checkiday.com/2/14/2018

No. You are not allowed to postpone it.

Don't worry. All of it, including veneration of saints, is pagan tradition. Not mentioned anywhere in the New Testament.

My kids' Catholic school is celebrating Valentine's Day today.

I’m thinking St Valentine won’t mind a switch. But most would want to move VD before lent, not during.

That. Celebrate Valentine's Eve. Better than in Lent, if you bother being Catholic at all, do it right.

Arrange to get your box of chocolates today, and eat as much as you want before Lent starts tomorrow. Then put the rest away and bring it out only on Sundays during Lent when the regular lenten rules do not apply. Thus you can have your treats while staying within church guidelines.

Same for us. We're busting out the chocolate today, right after we have our fill of pancakes for dinner .

This will work as long as you haven't given up for Lent anything that's part of your Valentine's celebration.

We did Valentines day dessert yesterday as today we like to make a king cake. The bummer is that the kids still have valentines day parties tomorrow (yes, Catholics in public school ) so we agreed they would save any sweets until after tomorrow (they aren't giving any of that up for Lent).

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Just give an empty candy box. Give up the candy for Lent.
