Running trails near Del Ray

Anonymous
I'm new to the area, any one have any favorite running paths or trails near Del Ray? A link to a map would be greatly appreciated...internet searches have been mixed.

You can pick up the Potomac Yard trail easily from Del Ray - it basically runs along the road behind Target. Ditto for 4-mile run, where you can connect to the Mount Vernon trail that runs along the Potomac.

All of these can be found on Google Maps. They all connect at some point, so it depends on what kind of distance you prefer - you can easily build a path across multiple local trails.

Any easy way to get to the Mt. Vernon Trail?

You can pick it up near the airport, after Pier 1 in Potomac Yard (4 mile run goes under the roads, it looks really creepy, but picks up Mt. Vernon after like 2/10ths mile): https://www.google.com/maps/@38.840743,-77.0490545,18z

Or closer to Old Town, if you follow Slaters Lane where it meets the green trail lines: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.8224992,-77.0444724,18z

Avoid Four mile Run, it can be dangerous.

Why what's happened there? I thought this area is safe.

Down the paved trail behind target and the movie theater. Cross 4 mile run. In front of the apartment building there are steps/ramp leading to 4 mile run trail. Take that towards the river and it’ll become mt Vernon.

Or go down Slater’s, across the parkway, and catch it there.

4 mile creeps me out. I think there have been some MS-13 gang stuff there, although not targeting random people like you and I. I don't run 4-mile run regularly, but do take the connection from Potomac Yard to Mt. Vernon. It's short, and during the day time there are often people. It's sketchy looking under the bridges but not any more "unsafe" than any other trail.

Please avoid it at night. Unless you are wearing something reflective.
