| Genuinely curious what professions earn that kind of income. Law partners, surgeons and finance folks? |
| May not be income. May just be wealth. Homes like that typically don’t have mortgages. |
| People who have a lot of money. |
| Finance types, TV talking heads, law partners- just your run of the mill high-income folks. |
| We can probably close this thread down now. All bases have been covered. |
| My sister would be one, her husband is a hedge fund bigwig and she runs her own small business. They have 4 homes and what can I say they like and can afford the good life. For me personally it would be way too much upkeep but we enjoy the fringe benefits about being family and getting to enjoy them too but being able to walk away at the end of a stay is kind of nice too. |
| Business owners. I own an IT business and our house is $3-3.5. My friends at similar income levels are mostly business owners also, no lawyers, and one in finance. It could just be the crowd I hang around with. |

Old money. I live on a street of predominantly $3m+ houses. The houses were not bought with funds earned by the inhabitants (except ours).
And you would not believe the petty drama that can ensue when no one one your street has a damn thing to do! It's a scene from another era. Reminds me of that movie The Help. |
Why is everyone on your street talking about the source of their $? Odd |
I don’t see why you think people are talking about the source of their money. It’s fairly obvious when someone’s wealth is generational rather than earned. It doesn’t require extensive discussion. |

Not the Pp, but it usually looks like this: SAHM with husband who has no real major professional accomplishments but expensive education. Family is not super-show-offy, but in no way could the husband's piddly job support the lifestyle they lead - which usually involves 3 or more kids in private school k-12 (and the $3m house). |
| New money. I hit big with bitcoin, cash out and live in a $5M house with 50M left in the bank. |
Are the homes purely vacation homes? I'm curious because because we have 5 homes in different parts of the country but we rent them because we just can't be everywhere at once and frankly I feel like it's not the best use of homes to just let them sit there empty. We do try to go out to the homes every once in a while but I don't want to spend/waste money on staff, gardener, etc if absolutely no one is there. Just wondering what people with multiple homes do |
| Homes in our neighborhood range from 1.5-5m. On the lower end are the attorneys, doctors, consultants, higher end are business owners and at least one professional athlete. Some attorneys are higher end, but the vast majority own their own business. |
