Inexpensive spring break ideas?

Anonymous
Just found out both parents can have off for spring break. No plans yet. Kids are 8 and 10. Needs to be within 4 hours of DC area. Any good ideas for inexpensive location? Would it be too cold for camping?

There's not much within a 4 hour drive of DC.

Williamsburg
Hershey
NYC (not cheap)
Pittsburgh
Philly
Baltimore

Farther away but driveable: Charleston (and nearby beaches).

We had a great inexpensive trip when we rented a cabin outside of Ashville. Obviously farther away than you are targeting.

These are very good ideas, thank you! I guess we would consider a few more hours drive, but only if we could stay longer and that all depends on budget.

Thanks!

We camped on Hunting Island in SC one spring break for a few nights and then stayed in a Hampton Inn in Savannah for 2 more nights. We also drove through the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge which was amazing.

I loved that trip, and it was nice to be in warmer weather. If you do camp, be warned that it will still get pretty cold at night.

That sounds like a really nice trip! I will put it on the list.
