I am reading the book and think I want to try it.
I am 41, obese, have been fat my whole life. My doctor put me on thyroid medication and I notice zero difference. Each year I seem to gain 5-10 lbs even though I don't eat more each year of my life. Even when I'm sick and lose my appetite and barely eat anything other than broth and water and popsicles I don't lose weight. My doctor seems content to just let me get more and more health problems, medicate them and go on that way. I don't want to be that person. I'd rather manage health issues through diet. She's never ONCE brought up anything like "hey, what do you eat? can we tackle your weight? would you like to see a nutritionist?" But I definitely need some guidance on this. |
Get a new doctor, or make an appointment with a registered nutritionist on your own. Why are you sticking with this doctor? |
Basically I'm sticking with this doctor for two reasons: 1. I hate change, in any capacity 2. I don't know how to find a better doctor. It seems a lot of my friends either don't go, or use an HMO while I have a PPO. |
Do you have insulin resistance? That can make it very hard to lose weight even if your thyroid levels are under control. I would look for a new GP and also see an endocrinologist. |
I don’t know what insulin resistance is. My doctor has never said anything about insulin or diabetes. |
Go to your insurance plan’s website and search for a convenient PCP accepting new patients. Read a few reviews. Make an appointment (could be several months out). You need a set of fresh eyes to guide you. Also, you identify your area I’m certain pps will have a PCP recommendation. Maybe even a nutritionist. This is important. |
