If you love the Olympics, but can do without the bloviating announcers, maybe you'd rather watch a great sports movie. Here's a starter for a favorite sports films list:
Harvard Beats Yale 29-29 -- documentary about the epic 1968 Harvard-Yale football game; title says it all |
|
Rudy
Hoosiers The Mighty Ducks (ok, ok, I jest) |
| Cool Runnings |
|
Miracle
Major League Rocky 42 In honor of the olympics we rented Blades of Glory. |
| Eddie the Eagle. For real. Perfect for the Olympics. |
| I Tonya I mean come on, nothing could top that |
| Breaking Away |
| The Big Lebowski. This dude abides. |
|
A League of Their Own
Step Into Liquid Dogtown and Z-Boys The Triplets of Belleville |
| Chariots of Fire and Miracle are my favorites! |
|
Remember the Titans
We Are Marshall |
|
Just watched Remember the Titans and Miracle within same week. They have key Disney elements to them though - the way they make tackles and goalie saves is way too dramatic. Doesn't actually happen in real life.
Same scene with driven coach with whistle pushing kids beyond the brink during drills which pulls team together, makes them stronger, blah, blah, blah. I still loved them even if they were Disneyfied |
| Invincible (in honor of the Super Bowl Champion Eagles!) |
|
Bull Durham
I also have a soft spot for Brian's Song. |
| ^^Almost forgot: The Cutting Edge. |
