condo vs hotel for playa del carmen (family with baby in tow)

I know it has been discussed before but I wanted to hear if anyone here had recommendations as to which specific condos or hotels are family friendly (recent visits preferable).

I looked on homeandaway but the few condos that looked good are pretty costly, we have not used non hotel type accommodation before and were wondering if it would be a good fit for us (traveling with a 1 year old and 5 year old)

Two years ago, we (family of 5) stayed at a condo in Playa del Carmen that was directly across the street from the Reef Hotel and had access to the hotel pools and beach area. I felt like we had the best of both worlds--nice hotel pools, our own kitchen, and washing machine and more space. We found the condo through VRBO.
