DPR Summer Camp Registration: Worked better this year than any other!

Anonymous
Registration for DPR Discovery Camp (kids 6-10) opened today at noon. I've been registering for Little Explorers and/or Discovery Camp for 5 yrs, this being the 5th year, and this year went more smoothly than ever. Registration didn't actually open at noon, there was a lot of reloading and then needing to re-log-in that was scary and frustrating, but once it opened and I figured out how to get the stuff into my cart, it went smoothly for once.

Every other year I've had to call the office because there was some tech challenge that couldn't be resolved just by being on the website. If they can fix the snag where registration didn't open in time, and also fix the fact that it kept kicking me out of log in when I refreshed the page, then the new platform will work really well.

Whatever happens, for those of us who can't afford the more expensive camps, I will be forever grateful to live in a District with affordable camps even though it's INSANE to get registered for the ones the most people want to get into.

Grateful, and the process worked better than before in my experience.

I was online before 12 and got 2 of 3 Discovery Camp sessions and #1 on the waitlist for the third. It was weird because session 3 appeared first, I put it in my cart and after the other two appeared I got moved to the waitlist on the 3rd. But I'm relieved we got at least 2 of them. They go fast.

I had a similar experience, where later sessions became available before the 1st ones.

When you got on the waitlist, did your confirmation of being on the waitlist give you a waitlist number/position?

Never mind on waitlist question, I see you know you're #1 so it did give you a position/waitlist number, which is good.

I tried for little explorers but all classes were listed as unavailable. I just don't know if that means I was too slow and they are filled (including wait list filled) or they just haven't opened that yet.

I'm pretty sure if you look at the actual camp you're trying to sign up for, it tells you what day and what time it opens. Just take a closer look.

Thank you!

Totally worked better this year than other years. We managed to register kids both today and yesterday. In previous years we've been kicked out of the system, accidentally signed up the wrongs kids for sessions due to panic/no time to correct, and just plain old got skunked. This year it was MUCH easier. Everything still filled up within a few minutes, but the system worked much better. I was pleased.

So much better!

My colleague logged in at noon, and was complaining she was waitlisted for everything. Lots of demand!

It's an improvement though that there is even a waitlist! In the past you either got in, or you didn't, no middle ground, no benefit to having tried in the 1st minutes or having tried 2 weeks later. Now at least there's a numbered waitlist and I bet the single digit people get in to the camps they tried for. Just a guess though, I don't have any inside info on that or anything.

I had trouble today but had to do it from work and our network was super slow today.

Does anyone know how much, if at all, wait lists move? We are 12/13 for little explorers one session and 30/31 for the other. (I figure no way being in the 30s but even the teens are a stretch.)

There's no precedent, there's never been a waitlist before, at least not in the last 5 years. So I don't think anyone knows how much they'll move. It also depends on which site you were going for in terms of how much the waitlist is likely to move. Which location were you going for?

Takoma. Filled by 12:03 ... I almost tossed my keyboard when my pages kept spinning their loading wheel! (Our network at work is the worst.)

I think Takoma keeps increasing in popularity, so again hard to call. Definitely get in touch with the DPR Camp headquarters (not at Takoma but main office) and ask whatever questions you have.

And I totally understand your pain about slow networks. I was offsite for a work mtg and was freaking out about whether to use my hotspot or the local site's wifi... thankfully the local wifi was fine, but it is maddening when you do all you can to be ready and then the technology does not cooperate!
