old wives tales and gender

so many people are giving me old wives tale advice about whether i'm having a girl or a boy - how i'm carrying, how sick i am, even some chinese predictor charts. has anyone found some truth to these. i also heard one about heart rate - if it's high it's a girl, low it's a boy. this is just for fun people...don't attack me about how silly this is. :o)

Those predictors are right about 1/2 the time And the one about heartrates is the other way around. Doctors used to predict gender based on heartrates, thinking that boys' heartrates were faster. No, I don't think there's truth to any of them. And to the extent people find them to be accurate in certain cases, it's because there are only 2 choices. A coin flip would be just as accurate.

I loved the old wives' tales when I was pregnant! Of course I found some that would point both ways, and depending on the day I would probably answer things differently. (Did the hair on my legs get coarser? I have no idea! How do people even see their legs at the end of a pregnancy?....) But it's a fun amusement - especially at my baby shower when I laid in the middle of the floor for them to do the ring test. FWIW, it was right.... but I wouldn't design the color scheme of the nursery around it!

When I was pregnant with my son, I had total strangers stopping me on the street and would say "You're having a boy right?" based on the way I was carrying (low, all in front). It was pretty funny!

Both with my son and my daughter I carried the same way. They also both had the same fetal heart beat. That did not stop people from telling me that since I'm carrying low - I must be having a girl. Or - since I've hardly gained any weight except around my belly - I must be having a boy. People can be pretty funny.

Like one of the PP said, I also had family, friends, and people at line at the grocery store tell me I was carrying a boy by the way the baby dropped. They were wrong, but ti was fun to listen to.

My MIL made a generalization when DH's cousin was pregnant that if the mom-to-be has an O then it will be a boy. Don't know if that is true...

With two pregnancies I had two different people tell me they were "visionaries" and
"always" predicted correctly. Both predicted I would have boys. Since we didn't find out what we were having I bought into their lines a little. There was lots of talk about how I was carrying, the aura from my skin (this was from a lady in the produce section at Giant!) Funny, because I have two girls.

Everyone always assumed I was having boys with all my pregnancies and I did have boys, but my last baby was a girl four different sonograms said so but I delivered a boy
