| We are zoned for Marshall and have our older child placed at Madison for AP. I just checked the dashboard after learning that Marshall is closed to transfers, and saw that Madison is closed as well. Almost all of the AP schools are...Madison, McLean, Woodson, Oakton, etc. We were planning on placing our current 7th grader in two years, but now I am wondering if we need to plan otherwise. Does anyone have experience with requesting placement at a closed school for a sibling? |
| How close are you to Falls Church HS? I would think that would be closer than Woodson. |
| The advice on this forum has always been to contact the schools directly and not rely on the dashboard. That’s not to say some schools aren’t refusing or capping transfers, but only that the dashboard “status” doesn’t tell the full story. |
I work at Marshall. It’s closed for next year. We are growing every year and can’t keep taking transfers. |
| Don’t rely on dashboard. I PP’d DS for IB. Dashboard said the school was closed. The school accepted the transfer. Call or email the school you want to yranafer to directly. |
| Rumor has it they're cracking down on capacity this year |
|
They really need to cut back on IB schools.
Very few people want that program |
NP here. I've given that advice, about not taking the dashboard as the final word, in the past myself. It was true a few years ago when we transferred DC from our assigned base HS to another HS as an academic transfer. But DC's school let parents know last week that they were closed to transfers and they haven't told parents directly like that before, so it sounds like they're telegraphing that things are so tight they're really no longer able to fit in any transfers at all as in the past. OP, I do still think you should talk to Madison directly but I suspect they'll say that your younger child is still too far from HS for them to say what the situation will be then. |
Apparently you missed the message that Marshall is over-full and closed to transfers. |
| Pretty much all counties make it clear transfers are really only possible at elementary level. The secondary schools are all at or beyond capacity and can't accept transfers. And o mean really, that's fair. People pay a lot of money to live in those pyramids, it's not acceptable to have 40 students in classes so people who live elsewhere can come to the pyramid too. |
Except the OP is not in the area of the county where there are too many IB programs. Marshall is the only one and every other HS near her is AP. The OP is just being picky about which AP HS. |
Falls Church HS is closed to transfers. |
Why? |
|
Almost all the high schools are closed to transfers.... It was the same last year --- yet transfers happened.
So.... people are getting in somehow.... Anyone want to share how to transfer into these schools which are closed? |
