Womens Periods Synching

Anonymous
Myth or not?

I was in France all summer long (Since May) and started my period every month I was there on the 5th. My Sister in law has been starting hers around the 19th of each month. When I left we were on the same cycle, when I was gone I started having my period on the 5th. Now that I am back, I have started my period on the 5th, and now I started it again today.

Is it a myth? My close Gay guy friend says its a myth.

It may be a myth but I swear I have synched with every woman roommate I have ever had.

i'm pretty sure its true. my college roommate got her period twice a month in the first few months we were living together and then started getting it at the same time i did...to the day.

It's no myth. Science has proven pheromones control cycles of women in close quarters (dorms, offices, homes, etc).

I synched with my hostmom back when I was an Au Pair. Thankfully, she synched with me, so mine didn't change.

So, I don't think it's a myth.

Oh, that's a little weird to think about... you being younger probably had the higher/ stronger pheromone levels. I wonder whose interference I'm getting at 41, because I was pretty standard at about 40 days between and now here I am getting another period at about day 20. Surely not my 8 y/o??

Are you purposefully not reading the Straight Dope link posted above?

It's totally true. I have a friend who has super-phermones. In every area of her life, friends, roommates, and coworkers all end up getting synched onto her schedule within a couple months of being around her. I swear my irreglular cycles got regular during the time we lived together.

The Straight Dope answer supposes that women's cycles are the same length every month (either 27 or 31 days for eg). But while a woman's luteal phase (after ovulation) is usually consistently the same length from month to month (14 or 13 days, for eg), the length of time before ovulation can vary from month to month, due to stress, hormonal imbalances, or illness. Therefore, I don't think it's so crazy to think that menstrual cycles could sync up eventually.

We can breathe hormones in. Its no myth.

I'm a host. I changed my sister's, my moms, my friends and my coworkers. Some younger, some older. so weird!

Does the younger woman always have stronger pheromone levels, assuming she is healthy, compared to older women?

Definitely not a myth.

From what I've been told, it goes all the way back to cavemen times. Women's bodies would sync their periods at the same time so that the husband wouldn't stray to another woman just because his wife was on her period.

No offense to the OP....but gay or not, men don't know as much about our bodies as we do.

Me too, but in my case I synched with her. Before that, my mom, my sister and I had almost the same dates. And also in school I shared dates with some of my best friends
