| Can someone give me a recent update on this school? The reviews online are literally all over the place. Some people make it seem like a wonderful magical land of learning and others... not so much. And it's expensive! What is going on? This is one of the few Montessori options left in this part of the county. |

That's not helpful! What's wrong with the school? Is it a financial thing? Administrative issues? We are trying to get DD with her younger brother in the public montessori, so this would be a temporary situation, hopefully only 1-2 years. All of the surrounding montessori schools are just way too far away. |

I recently toured it. I mean - it was nice enough, but I realized the montessori stuff is not for me.
Sorry - I guess I don't actually have relevant info. Kids seemed engaged in learning, interested, etc. Campus was gorgeous. |

I have a friend who's husband teaches there.
Apparently the current owner is a complete nightmare for the teachers which has resulted in a lot of turnover. She is leaving now though so they are revamping the school for this coming Sept under new leadership. |

They told the preschool parents there that they are not having a program next year. Hmm. Curious. Another acquaintance told me they are closing as well. How can the old owners leave when they own the facility? I am confused. |

| Ok: this morning I called. The receptionist/person answering the phone informed me that Bowie Montessori is closing, but that another school will take its place, on the same campus. She had no information about this new school, and it is May 15. I gave her my information and she will get back to me, apparently. I don't know how long it takes to open a new school but I think you need to know what is going on before May, right? So I doubt that this is a thing that is going to happen. |

That’s too bad. I had a child attend some years ago. It was a pretty good program although I had some issues with it.
I think patuxent Montessori is the one that I toured where the owner basically said that mothers who really love their kids don’t work and that sugar causes cancer. |

BMCH did close. Some of the families are working to build upon a Montessori Cooperative that started 3 years ago, when GlenDale Montessori closed.
Most of the closings are retirements (and, at BMCH, death of the founder, which was then mismanaged by the kids.. ultimately they would not sell to the school administration to keep it alive). I you want to learn about OCMC, contact ocmc.mail@gmail.com |
