Question About First Ultrasound Post-IVF

Hi All!

I just got the good news that I've cleared the beta stage after FET and am about to book my first post-beta ultrasound. (Yay!!) Is this something that your RE typically does or is it something that a tech will do like your pre-IVF monitoring? I'm at Shady Grove, so I'm trying to determine whether I need to schedule at my home office where my RE is, or if I can schedule it at the office closest to my work.

My personal RE wanted to do it himself at SG. Also my nurse didn't want me to schedule until after I got my third beta test results.

Congrats OP! The first U/S can be done by a tech -- you can make the appointment at any of the SG offices. Your nurse should give you instructions on this. Best of luck to you!

I was at SG. My RE did the first ultrasound himself, as well as the follow-up ultrasound at around 8w.

Congrats! My RE did all three of mine. First one, he saw a heartbeat at 5w2d, and he actually hugged me he was so happy for me! This was at Dominion.

Second time, went in around the same time, maybe a day or two later, and didn't see a heartbeat. Went a week later and all was good.

So, don't freak out if you don't see a heartbeat just yet. With my first he said that they heart probably literally JUST started beating.

It depends on whether you want your RE to do it. Some people have a preference to have their RE do it and some just don't care. I went to Frederick to see my RE for the ultrasounds even though I live closer to the Rockville office. All the best!

My RE did the ultrasounds (at Columbia Fertility).

Congratulations! My RE did the first one at SG, afterwards it was techs and then my regular OB.

I stayed with my RE until 8 weeks (after second US with heartbeat) and then was released.

OP here! Thank you so much everyone! We're so excited and are hoping for a good ultrasound reading next week.
If it helps anyone else, ultimately, my nurse at Shady Grove did specifically want me to come in and have my RE do this first ultrasound. She didn't say anything about whether he would also need to do the follow-ups, but thought this might be helpful for anyone else with this question.
