Rock-n-Tot

I hate doing this to mothers trying to do something positive but if any of you are looking to attend one of their events, be warned. The Ultra Bar location really is not good for a younger child crowd. The bar is skinny and four stories. The major "fun" stuff was on the top floor but I had my two kids with me and was not able to get up there with them. The stairs to the basement level were wide open so my two year old of course was drawn to them and while I understand I still needed to control my child, it was just an attractive nuisance I could do nothing about. There were several children about the same age doing the same thing. Also, the music was too loud for talking. We had a group of us all go and I looked forward to it. One couple left after maybe an hour because it was too loud and the rest of us tried hard to socialize but we just couldn't do it. The age range of our kids varied from 5 months to 6 years old and we all left early. If they move the venue, we might consider attending another one because the idea is great. The execution at this venue however was horrible.

doesn't sound very kid or mom friendly. where is this place, I have never heard of it?

It's 911 F street, NW right near the Spy Museum. It truly is a bar.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have to agree with OP. We were really disappointed. Waste of $.

not to hijack this post, but does anyone have feedback on the "baby loves disco" event (which is similar but a different venue)

I went to rock n tot too and I totally agree -- waste of money and poorly run. Bad venue, bad organization. No stroller parking, so the strollers ate up some of the already narrow dance floor. Music too loud, not enough room, and the upstairs activities were pretty much inaccessible to those of us with youngsters. This event was a total bust.

Be warned! We had a bad time and to top it all off, I received a parking fine yesterday from the DC Treasurer. Seems the valet folks not only parked my car in front of a fire hydrant but they took the ticket off of my window so I didn't know on the spot. Nice to get the $100 fine in the mail. I have emailed the website and asked that they call because they have no number posted. If anyone knows any of the organizers, can you please send me an email: skleger@gmail.com. I think the valet company should pay but I don't even know where to start on tracking them down. Thanks!

This is the mom with the ticket. I was able to contact the ladies at Rock'n'Tot and they responded immediately with my ticket issue. They were even going to pay it but it seems the valet company paid it although too late to prevent the fine notice from showing up at my house. We had a very lenghty email exchange and it does sound like they took a lot of heat from the first event but have turned it into positive improvements for their following events. If the issues we had were addressed (and it sounds like they have been - i.e. stroller issues, crowding in main areas), it could be a really fun event with our kids. We thought the idea was fabulous just the implementation had issues. I've planned events before and logistics for a first time event are never perfect. I know the comments here have been negative but the moms planning this have great intentions and seem to be very willing to help and work on things to make it fun for everyone. Just wanted people to know!!!

thanks for this posting...I was always curious as to what this was like. I heard about it on the radio, but the story wasn't very informative and definitely no "real" parent perspective.
