Reviews of Friendly High School?

Anonymous
I need to pull DS out of private school and we're zoned for Friendly HS. He's a junior and I assume only Friendly would take him mid-year. Any thoughts?

Does it matter what the reviews are...what options do you really have midyear?

Had a similar issue last school year. Because my daughter had a lot of advanced placement classes in private school that my neighborhood school, Surratsville in Clinton, did not have, I was given an option to send her to Frederick Douglas and they would send a bus to get her or I had the option to send her to Oxon Hill or Eleanor Roosevelt and provide my own transportation. In the end, we chose Roosevelt. So it you don't want him to go to Friendly and you can possibly justify that they don't have the same course or he is more advanced, they will let you go out of boundary.

Any updates on this school? We are moving from DC one child coming from BASIS and the other from McKinley Tech. Will they find Friendly challenging or should we aim for Bowie High instead? We can’t afford private for both.

Absolutely not. Coming from those schools in DCPS, you should try to get special permission into Oxon Hill science and tech or Eleanor Roosevelt science and tech. Any other high schools in PGCPS are not really good as far as challenging work.

Thank you. I did not know that was an option.

The IB programs are also challenging and unlike ERHS are generally not over enrolled. ERHS classes are 31+ kids while some IB programs have less than 20 in some classeses. .es

Thank you. Appears I have some more research to do.
