does everyone give?

Our mohel (pediatric surgeon) instructed us to give some. But DS just sucked on a wine-soaked cloth and was fine. Follow the instructions of your mohel.

wait, so are you saying you did NOT give it in the end?

Our mohel (an OB) did not instruct us to give, but he did use EMLA cream (numbing cream) and of course wine on the cloth and he was totally fine by the time he was reswaddled.

I did not give Tylenol. I think I may have given a little juice on a cloth instead of wine. One said lidocaine.

I used 2 M.D./mohels. I preferred the first, who did whatever they do in the hospital, in my house. It was the second one who said to apply the lidocaine.

Me again. Sorry, maybe I also gave Tylenol. I did whatever the mohel said. My boys are 8 and 6 now. Sorry I can't remember everything for sure.

Ok, well you are no help if you can’t remember what you did. Thanks for nothing...?

OP here. I did NOT post that last comment. Thanks for trying to be helpful.

My mohel says to give tylenol, and he gives a wine lollipop- it's like a stick with wine soaked cotton ball? or sugar water? or something?

NP here - I believe I just gave it after, but honestly any parent is so exhausted with a newborn that you shouldn't trust their memories. Ask your mohel.

Lol pp here - thanks. Fwiw - i didn't mean I can't remember anything - I remember what I said above in the first post aside from the Tylenol point. I would ask the mohel what the wine lollipop is!

I also recall at one point filling a syringe with Tylenol and being worried that there were air bubbles in it and my SIL said it's not like you're injecting him with it - it's fine. That sounds like something I would have done frazzled around the bris and I can't remember having to give Tylenol to a newborn otherwise, so maybe it was then.

Don't worry - it will be fine and you won't remember in a few years

We opted out of the genital mutilation.

op here: mohel recommends giving before, but says not NECESSARY. that's why im seeking a broader sample size

Per the mohel's instructions we did tylenol, and the baby got an injected anesthetic (which was apparently super traumatic - I wasn't even allowed to watch, only DH.) After seeing how much wine the baby got (the mohel was pretty liberal with that!) in retrospect I would have done ibuprofen instead or skipped the wine.

Cool no one cares

We didn’t with our first and he stopped crying in like 30 seconds. Our Mohel was the baby whisperer. My second was done by an OBGYN/mohel and we did Tylenol since he was a preemie and well past the 8 day old time point. He didn’t recover as quickly so I’m not sure it helped.
