Anyone have a recommendation for a 2 or 3-days/ week, half-day preschool for a kid who will turn 2 in July? We live near Shaw in DC and I have so far only been able to find some options in Upper NW DC.
Thanks in advance! |
| Everything you are going to find will be in MD or Upper NW because that is where the SAHM parents are concentrated. Typically, only families where one parent is at home do the part time programs. CCPC and All Saints both on the Chevy Chase circle are great. |

Thanks! We both WOH full time, but prefer a half day program to begin with.
There are actually lots of SAH parents or parents who work part time in my area, I guess they are okay to wait for Pre-K at 3 though. |
| I am not a SAHM and both kids went to half day preschool in Bethesda. A majority of the kids in preschool have a nanny or other caregiver at home that brings them to and from school. Most families have two working parents. Given the cost associated with having a nanny, most preschool programs are found in affluent parts of NW DC and MoCo. |
| Gan Hayeled has a half day program for 2 yos in Cleveland park. Lemon Tree Playgroup is closer to you (16th &V), but a nanny/caregiver needs to attend with the child (no drop off.) |
| You can also take a look at the DPR Coop Recreation groups. I forget if they start at age 2 or 2.5, but they're inexpensive and half day (available 5 days a week, but you could just send your kid as desired.) |
| Thanks all! To the Gan poster - is it very Jewish, or secular? We’re not too keen on religion in schools. |

Our kid turns 2 in October and we want her to start a half day program a few times a week. As far as drop-off programs, we've liked CCPC and All Saints for September 2018 starts, and the UMCCC preschool and the Gan for January 2019 starts. I think applications at all of those places except the Gan are past due.
Also, FWIW, the Gan seems pretty religious but totally welcoming. We're not Jewish but happy to have our kid exposed to Judaism. We were a little nervous about whether we would feel totally left out, but the director said that 20% of the families weren't Jewish and they make an effort to ensure all parents feel included. |
Thanks! What is UMCCC? I looked it up but couldn’t find one in this area. We did end up applying to two of the preschools in upper NW DC; will have to see if it works logistically. |
| I'm PP, so sorry, missed your question! I meant CCUMC, not UMCCC -- Chevy Chase United Methodist Church preschool. Seems like a great program! |
| Bethesda Reggio isn't far from United Methodist. Also a bilingual program. |
| Thank you! |
