If you have a two year old and work 8am-6pm, when do you work out? Get up really early and miss mornings at home? Do you use childcare at the gym at 6-7pm ever? Or just work out super early//at night at home while your child is sleeping? |
Third. No brainer. |
Super early on basement treadmill. Later in the morning on the weekends, while DS plays with his toys, or during naptime.
For awhile, I belonged to a 24 hour gym and would go after bedtime, but then DH started working nights, so I was the only adult in the house. |
8-6 sounds like you get a decent lunch break. You could work out then. |
I go at 5:45, home by 7, then wake her up for school. |
We use the childcare at the gym. |
I do a combo of super early, while kids are sleeping, gym while childcare (weekends, days off), and double jogger. I have three kids, all six and under, and work out every day. |
OP, are you a runner or a fitness walker? I used my running stroller frequently from the time my daughter was just over 6 months until she was about to enter kindergarten. Our preschool was about 2.5 miles from home and accessible to a jogging trail, so on really nice days, I'd run her to preschool and then run home with the empty stroller, or I'd leave the stroller there, shower at the gym nearby and go to work. It was a great way to fit in a workout, and my arms and back got seriously jacked from pushing a heavy stroller up hills. |
I work out early in the morning 5-6/6:30am or in the evening at 7:30. When my kids were younger I also went to the gym on weekends during nap time to cut down on the early week day mornings. I have a spouse who stays home so i go to they gym. Otherwise I would do a home workout.
No way would I put my kids in gym daycare form 6-7pm after they have, presumably, already been in daycare all day. |
I've always eating two breakfasts and two lunches (I eat often but not a lot) - and eat a banana or apple, something like that, then a half hour later go work out on my lunch hour, then eat the rest of my lunch.
So no matter my kids ages except for when I was home on maternity leave, they're always with the nanny when I'm working out. |
Get up early and work out before your kids wake up.
You don't get to have kids, work full time, then also work out and leave them again...choose your priorities. Put a treadmill in your basement and go down there at 6am. |
OP here. Thanks for the feedback. I know that it's a challenge for working parents everywhere. I am good with outdoors Spirng/Summer and Fall when the weather is above freezing and it's light outside. Meanwhile, I'll be in the basement during weekdays and at the gym on weekends! |
I did this too. It was the best. I didn’t realize how great it would be for my arms until I was in the thick of it. |
I work out at lunchtime. There are a ton of gyms and studios around my building downtown, and then I eat whatever leftovers I brought from home while working. I have a 1 and 3 year old, their morning wakeup times are unreliable and I can’t seem to wake myself up at 4am to ensure I finish before they are up. |
Try doing something like body boss or zumba on youtube at home. Your two-year old will likely join in and its a great way to spend time together. |
