I am doing my 2nd round of IVF and am on a high dose of follistim (450 UI). The vial is 900 ui so I should be using up each vial after 2 nights. I have noticed that there is extra medicine in teh vial when i am done -- about 25 -50 ui. Is this just extra in case I make a mistake or need to get bubbles out? That seems weird giving how crazy expensive each vial costs. Or is it possible that my pen (which is used last round on a diff protocol) is loose and dial is not dispensing all the medicine? Last night i just injected the extra in me but then I got paranoid bc 450 is the max dose and i have read that high doses can affect quality (is that true or old conventional wisdom)?

| There is overfill, and the amount is written on the box or in the pamphlet. I don't have my box on hand, but I can check later for you. The amount left after the last dose is equivalent to the last marker on the pen, on some of the pens it is 75 iu. You should only inject your dose amount and not the dose plus overfill. If I were you, I would check in with my nurse or doctor. All of these meds can get confusing! |
