My husband is Ron Swanson

It’s really hard to live with him sometimes. He refuses to use our echo as the government would spy on us. He refuses to live in the city because of the “liberals”; he has eclectic interests and is reclusive. He has a hard time relating to other people.

I am the polar opposite. I don’t know what to do.

Has he always been this way? Sounds like a mental illness. Anxiety?

He doesn't sound that bizarre. I wouldn't use the echo because people will definitely spy on you. Amazon will collect data, hackers will get into it like they already do with baby monitors. Lots of people choose not to live in the city for various reasons. Most people I know have an eclectic interest or two.

What is it that you really want? For him to go out more? To live in the city? To be exactly like you?

I opened this link because I was thinking Ron Burgundy, not Swanson.

Your husband is right about the Echo. Use your brain, OP - why wouldn’t they use this for data mining?

I'm sorry OP. He's right about the Echo though.

It would be better if he was more tolerant of others with different opinions. But, living in a city is not for everyone.

Thank you, PP, for introducing me to LMGTFY

(Guess I'm getting old...)

He doesn't sound so bad to me

I don't use the Echo either, the benefits don't outweigh the high potential for negatives, to me.
But is any of this new? I can't imagine he just became this way overnight. I wouldn't like the type of guy you are describing either, but you chose him right?

Ron Swanson is the typical "public servant" unmotivated and talentless. Your DH works for the government and at the same time thinks his employer spies on him?

Why would you assume he works for the govt? OP said nothing about that.

And yes, the govt absolutely IS spying on you. On everyone. Every single email you get has been scanned, every phone call you make is monitored, logged, revoked and stored by the NSA. The fact that it's all automated as opposed to actual people listening doesn't mean it's not spying.

Recorded, not revoked.
