"Lottery" programs in va

Can someone please explain to me these lottery programs in VA..where are they and how can one get on the list?

Are you talking about the lottery to gain entrance to one of the elementary magnet schools in FCPS?

If so, go to the FCPS website and it should have info on when they will be accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year. They should also have info on attending an information night at one of these schools (not sure how many schools have a magnet program, back when we applied the only two were Baileys Crossroads and Hunter Woods). Sometime in January/February you submit your application and if I remember correctly families are notified by April if they were pulled from the lottery.

There is also a lottery for the language immersion programs.

I believe Arlington also has a lottery -- but the OP did not indicate where the query was for in Virginia.

My son got into a magnet school through the lottery this year. They had information nights in January at the school and the lottery application was due in late February, I beleive. We learned of his acceptance in mid-April.
