| In another thread, people said they don't have the cell phone number of their supervisor to call/text when needed. Is this the norm? I have always had my supervisor's cell and will text her if I am going to be in late or whatever. I just started supervising a team of new employees and gave them all my cell (personal - not work issued) to contact me if needed - and they have (clarifying meeting/location if I am not at my desk, if they are running late/need to leave urgently, etc) Just seeing if this is the norm. |

I think it depends on the expectations of your company. At my last job this was not normal, but at my current job, this is the expectation.
And if your company pays for your phone, it is always the expectation, I think. |

I have traveled with my boss, so I have his cell from those trips. I will text him if I'm going to be unexpectedly out or like you describe, about small clarifications when we are away from our desks etc. Other than that, it's email.
We don't have company phones. |
| My staff have my cell number in case they need to reach me outside of business hours. I have my the cell number for my boss, but it's his work issued phone. |
| I have everyone in my units phone number. We texted all day long during the furlough |

| I have everyone's preferred number (personal or work). My boss is the president of the company and frequently goes on last minute trips domestically and internationally. If I couldn't text him, I'd have no idea what was going on and neither would he. Email doesn't work so well when you have thousands coming in each week. |
| This is incredibly manager/company specific. My boss does not like phone calls or texts AT ALL. If we need to get information to her, she wants an email about it, even if it's a one line "Out sick - won't be in today". My previous manager was Mr. Phone Call. The second a thought popped into his head, he was on the phone to talk to you about it and expected the same. |
