What do shin splints feel like?

Anonymous
I have recently started working out every other day and so far so good until last night when it literally felt like the muscles that run along my shin on my left leg was twisting. It was very painful. I iced and elevated it and it feels better this AM, but what was that? Can I work out again tomorrow?

Like the muscles on your shin are ripping themselves off your legs. So uncomfortable! It usually happens when I go from couch potato to attempted runner overnight. Gradual increases are your friend!

Searing pain along the front of your shins. I had it once and it was HORRIBLE.

What sort of cardio are you doing, OP? How are your shoes? If you're running on very hard surfaces (like concrete) and your shoes are old or not great for running, that can lead to shin splints.

OP here, thanks!

I'm using a bowflex m5 machine. Maybe my shoes aren't right. I was wearing regular running shoes.

Like someone else said, it’s searing pain along the shins. I had it pretty badly in HS that it was difficult to even walk. If you continue to workout, lower your intensity to not make it possibly worse.
