AAP Submission File

Anonymous
For those of you that have gone through this before - did you ask to see your child’s file that was submitted to the committee, and if so, what sort of work samples were included? Was there anything in it that surprised you?

We’re not in FCPS, and it’s a little bit like flying blind, trying to figure out what the committee is looking for. DD’s lowest score on CogAT was in verbal, so we are submitting more work samples that reflect her writing capabilities than quantitative, where her score is very good, and probably requires less support.

Yes, we asked for the file. I think most parents do, to see the GBRS at least, which can give you a good idea of where they stand in the eyes of their teacher and AART. As far as work sample, the AART put those together and we weren't surprised, really. They seem to know what indicates giftedness, unlike me. Of course we're talking about 2nd grade work samples. One example was a picture showing the detail of a floorplan of our house, The AART seemed to think that showed some ability. Our DC is in middle school. AAP has been great.

Thank you. That’s part of the problem. Not having that insight.
