Considering move from SS to DC--need advice on public school system and Special Ed

We are considering a move from Silver Spring to DC next Spring. We have an 8 year old with ADD inattentive and other undiagnosed LDs. Can anyone provide advice on the public school system in DC? Are there any that you could recommend? And what are Special Ed services like?
We cannot afford private school!

You might take a look at Hyde Elementary. I had heard that the community center next to it was to be renovated and turned into a school for Gifted learning disabled students. But that was many years ago when dd was there and I don't know if it all worked out as planned.
