Feedback on Headfirst Camps

Looking specifically at the day camp I and II programs. Were you happy with the experience? I saw some older posts about unkind or immature counselors.

My information is dated by a few years, but I sent my 4 and 6 year olds there and never returned. I found the counselors to be very young and the infrastructure felt chaotic to me. My son who has food allergies was made to sit at a separate table everyday and was left in the lunch room one day. Things may have changed, but that was my experience, which I would personally not repeat.

My son went there very young as well - between PreK and K. Horrible experience. He only made it through 1.5 days. My daughter liked it but didn't love it. The whole drop off thing is very chaotic and trafficy - I think my stress at that sent him off. He's in middle school now and never had a problem with another camp. He likes Sidwell, Home Run, PPA soccer, Calleva and HoopEd. Never have gone back but that experience makes me evaluate camps on how easy the drop off and pickup is

I know a few families who have been happy there and are sending their kids (rising Ks) there again this summer. We are going to try it out for a few weeks as well. My DS will have 2 years of PK under his belt once he starts this summer, so I am not as worried about him adapting to a big, busy environment as I might otherwise be. But we'll see how it goes!

My son (now in 1st grade) went there last summer. It was OK. Not a fantastic experience but nothing bad happened. He had been at a great camp for the previous weeks with lots of his friends and he went to this one without any friends. He seemed to have an OK time, but he doesn't want to go back this year.

OP. They are opening a location at Episcopal in Alexandria this year. Curious whether it will be even more hectic at a new location or whether they will be working extra hard to make the first year smooth. Interested in any other experiences.

Bumping this for the same questions. We went to the open house this past weekend but it's hard to tell what actual camp will be like.

My son went to Multi-sport and the regular day camp for a few weeks when he was 6 and again at 7. He had a great time, as did a bunch of other kids we know. My husband actually found the dropoff and pickup most organized of all the camps we tried. That said, we didn't have allergies or any other special concerns that might be tough to handle for young, inexperienced counselors.

We sent two kids to the Flint Hill location the last two summers and it was great. Kids loved it, organized, counselors were great and we have one kid with a medical issue and it was handled perfectly.

My kid had a great time at the St. Alban's location.

I would absolutely avoid this camp. We had a counselor tell a group of 8 year olds terrifying stories during the day (ex: shadows moving away from your body and trying to kill you). My kid is still having trouble sleeping and that was six weeks ago. The adminstrators had a chat with the counselors about it but I found their response to be underwhelming. Also very chaotic for my five year old. Never again!
