Living in Laurel, Md work in DC

Does anyone commute via commuter bus from Laurel to DC. I'm specifically in North Laurel. How is it? I am considering switching to a job in DC. Friends keep telling me not to because of the commute. But I'm very unhappy at my current job and want to pursue a new opportunity. Is the commute that bad? I'd just be sitting on a bus.

How about the Marc train? Is that an option?

most use Marc train

My husband drives from old town Laurel to the Greenbelt metro and then metros in. Its about an hour and 15 minutes door to door, depending on where he is going that day (he freelances, so it changes). If you keep normal working hours the MARC is a great option, though.

Another one for MARC train. If you need to, you can also get on the MARC at the Greenbelt and College Park stations. It's a good choice to keep in mind if you work late and end up having to metro back to your car.

I have been doing that commute for 13y. I drive (BW Parkway in to north DC) and it takes an hour.

What times do you all commute? Is leaving at 7am going to impact me more?

I am the BW Parkway commuter -

I leave at 7 and it takes an hour at that time. If I leave at 6:30, it is 45m or so. I rarely leave later than 7:15 (still an hour), so I can't comment on an 8am or 9am commute.

We live within walking distance of the 87-Express. My wife has to go downtown once/week. If I can't drop her off at the Metro, she takes the 87-Express to Greenbelt and then take the Green Line in to DC. It helps that her office is right off the Green Line. If you don't live near it, you can drive to the Laurel Kiss & Ride on MD-197. It takes 30 minutes from the K&R to get to Greenbelt. The bus then continues to New Carrollton (Orange Line) and takes 15 minutes more to get to New Carrollton (45 min total). It's about 30 minutes longer than commuting by Marc, but we aren't that convenient to Marc where we are.

I do the commute from the Burtonsville Park and Ride to downtown DC/Foggy Bottom area.

I work a 7 to 3:30 pm schedule, so it's not that bad. I don't have a problem with the MARC train, but I would then need to take the metro to my final spot. I loathe the metro!

And so I take the commuter bus. What I enjoy about the commuter bus is that you get to relax and even sleep a little. If you have a work schedule like mine, the bus goes by the schedule.

If you leave your job after 4om, you run the risk of the bus being anywhere from 5-20 min late. It's annoying when that happens.

So yes, the commute from Laurel to DC can be done either by driving, taking the metro from Greenbelt, taking the MARC from Laurel or Muirkirk and then taking the metro or just taking the commuter bus.
