Is Milan worth a day trip from Lake Como?

Is it worth a day trip in August? What are the must see things other than the duomo?

The Last Supper

Yes. La Scala if you can get in.

You can buy tickets in advance for the Last Supper. Worth seeing even if you're not Christian.

Lake Como. I'm green with envy.

Don't go to Milano, there is way too much to do and you won't be able to do justice to anything in a day. The Duomo is probably the one thing you should see, and while the building itself is amazing, it is also a horrible tourist trap. My guess is doing the Duomo and the posh shopping galleria right next door won't be worth driving in from Como.

Have you considered Lugano in CH? Short drive from Como but will be similar scenery. If you want to stay in Italy I can recommend Piedmont which is amazing and Lake Maggiore is nearby. Piedmont is also the home of the slow food movement so there are tons of really good places too eat, which is sadly not true of Como and nearby towns.

No, I don't think Milan is worth it unless you are spending time on Lake Como. Not as a day trip.

Thanks for the tips. Piedmont sounds great but is a bit too far of a drive. Lugano is a possibility. We are going to be in Zurich and Davos first for a week then driving to Lake Como for a week before driving back to Zurich to return.

No. Unless you're super into high fashion, it's not worth it.

We took a day trip from Como and it was totally worth it. Bought tickets in advance to see the Last Supper, walked around the city. Also went to Turin for a day to see the shroud.

NO! I didn't hate Milan like many people do, but it's also not particularly charming and I wouldn't go out of your way to visit.

I flew into Milan and spent a day or two there before traveling to Lake Como. I saw Il Duomo, The Last Supper, La Scala (but no tour of it), and the Arch of Peace. I was satisfied with that, but I don't know that you need to go out of your way to see it.

I'm the Piedmont PP.

Enjoy Zurich, especially Sprungli! What amazing chocolates.

Como will be crazy hot in August, make sure to book accommodation with air conditioning. Majority of the Italian flats don't have AC. This is a rare instance where I'd recommend staying in a chain hotel for American style AC over a flat in town.

Rooftop of the Duomo is cool.
