Anyone have any tips? I try to eat well but then my motivation just disappears. |
Exercise. Spend time outdoors. Go for walks.
Aside from the extra calorie expenditure, both are proven to help with depression. |
Are you treating the depression? |
Exercise. My therapist looked me square in the eye last week and told me I needed to exercise. She said it is the NUMBER ONE WAY to combat anxiety and depression, moreso than medicine.
|
1. I'm on meds.
2. I did a six week Bootcamp challenge and got up at 4:30 AM most days for the entire time to work out. I feel worse now. |
I also felt worse after doing a morning boot camp. It turned out I had adrenal fatigue and instead of doing rigorous exercise, I needed to do more relaxing activies and take various supplements. Now the pounds are melting off. |
What sorts of supplements? |
Forget crazy stuff like 4:30 a.m. wakeups and "boot camp." Just commit to a nice walk every day. If it is raining or snowing, walk up and down the stairwell at your office, or do a YouTube exercise video. Or just turn on music and dance around for three songs.
Forget that boot camp type crazy stuff. Just move around in some way that makes you feel good. |
Bootcamp made you feel worse? Well, then I would try a different exercise or a different time of day. But you should be doing it in some fashion. It will help your sleep too. |
I felt terrible when I was making myself do Orange Theory. Now I do yoga, walk, stretch and lift weights at home and it makes me feel much better. |
Because you were getting up at 4:30! Exercise is proven to help with depression. But not if you do something completely counterintuitive, like losing sleep for a workout you hate. |
Are you me? Load up on Liquid Ionic Magnesium. You are Magnesium depleted. Read "Magnesium Miracle". It changed my life. Eat leafy veggies and fruits with each meal. Load up on Probiotics. Take Ashwaganha thrice a day with meals, take Brahmi for anxiety and drink Moringa tea twice a day to get your sugar, BP and hormones balanced. Google all of these herbs. Ease up on your exercise. Here is what I did to start exercising for weight, metabolic efficiency and anxiety. You need to hit the 1 hour walking daily in 4 months time so that you do not exhaust your mineral reserves in your body or injure your muscles or joints. - 10 minutes walking in a.m and p.m daily in week 1 - 15 minutes walking in a.m and p.m daily in week 2 - 20 minutes walking in a.m and 15 minutes walking in pm daily in week 3 - 20 minutes walking in a.m and 20 minutes walking in pm daily in week 4 - 25 minutes walking in a.m and 20 minutes walking in pm daily in week 5 & 6 - 25 minutes walking in a.m and 25 minutes walking in pm daily in week 7 & 8 - 30 minutes walking in a.m and 30 minutes walking in pm daily in week 9 & 10 - 35 minutes walking in a.m and 25 minutes walking in pm daily in week 11 - 25 minutes walking in a.m and 35 minutes walking in pm daily in week 12 If you want to increase your walking time - add another session of walking in the afternoon. Walking 2 or 3 times daily for a maximum of 30 - 40 minutes each is the way to combat depression, lose weight, make your blood sugar stable, protect your knees, ankles, foot and joints from wear and tear. Be very gentle with yourself and be mindful of what you eat and drink. No diet that means you are hungry or shaky. Eat well, eat fresh and eat local. |
I second (or really, with) exercise...but not of the nootcamp caroety. Something more fun and gentle and flowy. Does a bike ride or a swim appeal to you? Walking is a very easy option too. Throw in a route with a few hills if you want.
Don't think about it as "how can I burn the most calories and feel a massive burn??", think of it as getting your body moving. In my experience, once you start doing that in a regular, sustainable way, you feel better, you start wanting to eat healthier, etc. It's not a quick fix, it's a lifestyle thing. Good luck and be gentle with yourself! |
Thank you all for your input...the non-trolls of course. I was hoping an intense schedule would whip me into a better pattern but obviously it was too much too soon. I haven't been to therapy for a while so I might need to check in there too. |
Small steps, op. I'm routing for you! |
