SAT or ACT???

DD is a junior and will start taking tests this spring. She said she heard the ACT is "easier" -- thoughts? She's a B/C student and has been struggling lately, doesn't seem to test well in general. Would the ACT be a better test for her? She will get accepted to her college based on her athletic hook, so no worries there.

If she will get accepted why does it matter? A B/C student won't get merit aid even with solid scores.

It depends on whether she is stronger in math or reading comprehension. If the latter, the ACT is probably better. If the former, probably SAT.

Run a couple of practice tests and see how she does.

The ACT is conceptually an easier test than the SAT, but there's a big time crunch. The SAT gives you more time (almost double or so per question compared to the ACT), in comparison. Agree with trying out both and seeing where strengths/weaknesses lie.

I don't know if this is a typo or pp really meant to say this but I think it's exactly the opposite. The math in ACT is harder than SAT but has easier reading comprehension than SAT.

Why not take both? My son is a senior and took the SAT twice and ACT once.

Depends on the kid. Let her take practice tests in both and see what she prefers.

ACT also has a science component

ACT has a science compinent

Graded on a curve. Easier isn't better. What matters is how you perform relative you your ability when under pressure.

She should try a timed practice test of each and decide.

I think this article outlines the differences quite thoroughly.

The ACT is a more straightforward test than the SAT. You don’t need to figure out what is being asked as much as you do the SAT. It isn’t necessarily easier. The science portion is really more reading comprehension than pure science btw.
