I was wondering how many expecting moms have had to take an antibiotic during pregnancy and resulted in an otherwise normal pregnancy and healthy child. I am 24 weeks and have suffered from a terrible cold for 3-weeks that has turned into a sinus infection. I have tried all natural remedies (i.e. nasal sprays, humidifiers, sinucleanse, safe OTC meds, healthy diet, etc.) but nothing has alleviated my symptoms. My OB prescribed azithromycin (6 doses) last week should symptoms persist, but I am experiencing a high level of guilt/resistance to taking anything. |
i had to take 2 rounds of antibiotics from week 25-28 due to a horrible sinus infection that wouldnt quit,my son also had RSV and croup and we were a germ castle..i'm now 34 wks prego and high risk OB had told me not to worry at all about needing to take antibiotics, esp in 2nd and 3rd trimester, we'll be fine, the risks of an out of control infection in our body is worse than taking a course of antibiotics, hope you feel better soon! |
I had to take antibiotics (heart related) for dental work. I double checked with my doc and the cardiologist for the "all clear". The dentist was clueless if it was safe or not.
All went fine. As the PP said, the risks outweighed the benefits in my situation. Feel better soon. |
I had to take antibiotics during two of my pregancies and everything was fine with both. (First - UTI, Second - Ear infection). Its ok as long as your doctor knows you are pregnant - there are many antibiotics that are ok to take. My doctor said that the consequences of not treating a serious illness can be far more harmful. |
I had to take Azithromycin at the very beginning of my pregnancy because I came down with pneumonia around the same time that I got a positive pregnancy test result (great timing, right?). Anyway, the doctor specifically chose Azithromycin because she said that it's one of the only antibiotics that does not cause any harm to the fetus. Here I am, 18 weeks later and all the ultrasounds and tests show that the baby is doing great. I wouldn't worry too much about taking it if your doctor recommends it. It's really important that you get healthy and strong. |
146 poster here, I meant to say that the benefits outweighed the risks, not vice versa. Sorry, it was really late (new mom with a newborn) |
On antibiotics twice during 2nd pregnancy for really bad colds and an ear infection. DD is 7.5 months and happy & healthy as can be. |
I had to take amoxicillan at 30 weeks for an ear infection. DS is 2 and perfectly fine. |
Same situation. I had a bad, lingering cold that turned into a sinus infection. I took antibiotics and baby turned out fine. |
I'm 5 months pregnant and had to start taking amoxicillin the other day for a bad sore throat and fever - has anyone had any side effects from taking the antibiotic? I've lost my appetite and feel light headed. I've taken amoxicillin many times over the years with no reaction so i'm not sure if it's the cold, the medicine, or the pregnancy. just curious if others had to stop an antibiotic for side effects. thanks. |
Just thought I'd chime in... I, too, took the same antibiotic as everyone else... "Z Pack" in the end of my 3rd trimester. Both OB and GP recommended it. |
