are you guys coloring your hair? I have really dark hair, and I now have a stripe of white where my new growth has come in. I know I shouldn't be vain, but I look like a skunk. Highlights don't really solve the problem for me unfortunately. I am almost in my 2nd tri, and wouldn't do anything before then, but I feel so guilty for being vain. I was thinking maybe Aveda might be able to do something since they use more natural products... not sure though.
Any other skunks out there? What are you guys doing? |
| I am a skunk and dyed throughout both my pregnancies with the blessing of my OBs (2 different practices for my births). Used Aveda for the natural products. I was 26 during my first pregnancy and had been dying my hair since age 16 when I went 50% gray. It really would have looked awful, and at that time there was no evidence that using natural products was harmful to the baby. Maybe there is now, if someone knows it, please post a link. FWIW, anecdotally speaking, my kids are typically developing at ages 3 and 5. |
| I decided to highlight my hair for the first time early on in my second trimester. Couldn't take the gray anymore. It was just coincidence that I had finally had enough during pregnancy. I mentioned it to my OB and she had no problem with it. Next step may be full color. |
| I have dark hair with tons of gray...After talking to my OB and doing reading on the subject, I decided to wait until the second trimester to color it. |
| Waited until 2nd trimester. I was going crazy though... |
|
I colored mine once, I think 2nd trimester, then was lazy and just didn't do it again until after she was born. Just did it myself.
I used to go to an Aveda salon and always felt like their color faded way too fast for what I paid. |
| I color mine every 6 weeks, always have, always will. 2 completely healthy children, another on the way. |
| I color mine every 6 weeks as well, and colored it during the first trimester. My OB said it was perfectly fine, and it makes sense. Pregnant women work in salons and are exposed to the chemicals a lot more than we are during a few hours and they're fine. I would just go ahead and do it. |
| I used henna during the 1T. It was messy, but cheap and it covered the gray. the downside is that it only lasts about 6 weeks. Now that I'm in the 2T I will be highlighting, which is what I usually do. Good luck! |
| I went skunky, but that's just me. |
I don't know what the doctor will say, but I was going to suggest henna as well. It is not a chemical and it does not bleach the hair so maybe it is ok.... Not to hijack the thread, but I have never had grey hair and the other day I found 4 all at once. Has anyone else noticed more grey during pregnancy? |
| Question for the henna folks....does it make your hair red? I always thought henna was more red than brown/black? |
i hate to say this, but it makes your hair look like it's covered in shoe polish. |
| I have seen henna at Whole Foods available in multiple colors. I bought the dark brown and never used it. I guess that I was nervous. Does it really make your hair look like its covered in shoe polish!!?? |
| It does not make you look like you are covered in shoe polish. Try a color slightly lighter than your own hair color and not in the red family and you should be ok. |
