Why are people obsessed with putting $$ in retirement?

Anonymous
I don't understand. Wouldn't you want to enjoy the majority of your money while your young? People put so much into their retirement and try to enjoy their earned cash when they are 65+. I understand putting SOME money away but not a majority.

Because I don't want to be a greeter at Walmart when I'm 80.

...Because after you stop working, the paychecks stop. The money you put into a retirement fund is for you to live on for the rest of your life after you stop working.

because most people now can't retire at 65 and if they do they are stressed. 65 is still relatively young and I would like to travel and do whatever I want without worrying.

Also, elderly care is really expensive

How old are you OP? How long have you been working?

because i don't know how long i will leave... because i don't want to burden our kids when we are old... because i don't want to worry about money/paying bills when we are old... because we expect medical bills will eat us alive.

OP here. Yes, this is a serious questions. My parents are in their mid 70's and live fine with SS and my mother working part-time. They travel internationally once a year. I would like to spend more money while I'm younger (now) rather than when I'm 65+ with health issues.
