Are there ever any openings in the 4th grade at Holton? I know it begins in 3rd, but was wondering if one could pretty easily enter in 4th as well.
Possible, but nowhere near as easy as third.
There are nine new 4th graders at Holton this year.
Thank you for the quick replies!
There will probably be more openings this year due to the bad economy. Too -- people often move unexpectedly.
Check out the new issue of the Washingtonian Magazine on a story about the private school tuitions. The head of Holton is quoted prominently.
can you post a link or summarize the story? TIA |
There is another forum going on the new story in the Washingtonian. The idea is tuitions have increased 100% in ten years at the privates (doubling them) from just 10 years ago -- pretty scary stuff. Also, they talk about how endowments are shrinking due to the bad economy and also how more and more people are seeking financial aid who have never done so before.
I have an "average" second grader who is in public school right now. She seems to be bright but more of a late bloomer. Am I better off to apply to Holton (or NCS for that matter) when she is younger (i.e. for third grade or fourth grade, depending on the school) or wait until she is older and has become (presumably) more mature in her academic performance? I am firmly committed to an all girls education for her, but frankly, would rather wiat until 6th or 8th grade. I was just wondering if admissions are less or more competitive at a younger age.
It is easiest to get into Holton at either 3rd or 7th grade. They'll take more kids at 3rd, but that is also when most of the legacies and siblings will come in, so more spots may already be spoken for. I think the two are probably about equal. Other years they are mostly only filling spots vacated by a departing student or making room for someone exceptional.
High school is the easiest to get into Holton. Some people apply several times and then see how it works out. Some people are waitlisted and then try again a few times until it works out.
