LOOKING FOR MR. RIGHT OB/GYN FOR MOM TO BE RELOCATING FROM HAWAII

Aloha DC Moms:

I will be relocating to the DC area and finally I've narrowed down the School District in which I will relocate. Woodson High School.
Now I need to find an OB/GYN no matter where, I will drive wherever.
My issue here is I don't want to become a file, or a number, I would love to have the same doctor from the monthly visits to the delivery of my baby, for some reason a great amount of doctors in this particular practice (OB/GYN) in VA, have shared practices and you have rotate between 3 to 5 doctors, until whomever is on-call attends to your delivery. I DON'T LIKE THIS, seems impersonal and strange, not to mention I don't like Woman Doctors.
If any of you have ideas, suggestions or comments to help me on my quest for Mr. Perfect-Doctor OB/GYN I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks

Sounds like you need a solo practitioner. I like Dr. Richard Footer in Bethesda. His nurse and office manager is his wife - there is no other office staff. It was nice to be greeted by name. The only downside is that an appointment may be rescheduled at the last minute if he is doing a delivery. Also, he only delivers at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. He also has an office downtown but it is busier than the one in Bethesda. Good luck.

I recommendDr. Scott Forrest --http://www.drsallenandforrest.com/

They are a small (two doctor) practice located in Fairfax. His partner is a woman (Dr. Terry Allen), but I like both of them very much.

Just curious, but why wouldn't you want a woman? I would think most women feel more comfortable with someone who has the same equipment.

Hmm, I was going to suggest a midwife for the awesome personalized care, until I got to the part where you don't like women doctors (most midwives are women). I've never heard that one before -- it seems like if women have a preference at all, it's not to have MEN doctors (OBGYNs specifically). Anyway. If you change your mind about that, Whitney Pinger (202-255-3108) is a fantastic solo practitioner CNM (certified nurse midwife) who does deliveries at Washington Hospital Center.

Welcome to the area!

sorry, that's 202-255-3108 -- DCUM turns "8 )" into a cutesy little 8) ...

I highly recommend Dr. Alan Birnkrant at 2311 M Street.

Regarding the question as of why I don't like Woman Practitioners, well, I feel they tend to push harder just because they are woman, I also feel they are rougher as they know how much pain we can "really" take.
They also tend to be as emotional as any other woman and I don't like a doctor on her PMS week or mad at her life partner.
Thanks but no thanks

I recommend Dr. Tchabo - especially if you are seeking a more natural birth experience. He delivers at Virginia Hospital Center. Google him and you'll see there are lots of positive references to him.

I highly recommend Dr. Brendan Burke in Chevy Chase. He delivers at Sibley.

You can get more info on most of the docs mentioned in this thread using the search feature. Good Luck!!!

Burke is expensive. I recommend if you are living in VA you stay out of the mucky muck of the MD snob circle.
Dr. Scott Forrest is great. I second that recommendation. FWIW, you are moving to a great area. Woodson is great high school and there are so many options/opportunities for your kids. Once you settle in and get involved, you will meet some nice Moms. Good luck with the move.

Finding the right OB/GYN is like hiking the Kilauea Volcano.

You have some disturbing notions of women docs, OP, which I'm assuming comes from your personal experience with women physicians in the past. I can't tell you to re-think your whole world-view, or even your conceptions of women in the workplace more specifically, but you may want to keep an open mind and try a woman again. There are some great practitioners in this area who happen to be female, and it would be a shame to narrow your options.
