Warm socks and boots for sensory sensitive kid?

Anonymous
My sensory sensitive six year old only likes relatively thin cotton socks. Ski socks, smart wool, etc. bring tears. I searched the archive and found links to seamless socks, but those look thin to me. And I think it's not the seam that's the problem but the constrictive feeling of the warmer socks. Regular wear day to day socks are ankle socks with seams. Any recs for comfortable but warm socks?

Also on boots, he really hates putting on boots. We have ll bean ones that are comfortable once on but a struggle to get over the ankle. Thus they become a fight and were back to Velcro sneakers and thin ankle socks. Any good kids winter boots that unzip or untie all the way down the leg part?

Thanks for any help, stay warm!

For boots try Lands End. They have some that velcro open pretty far down.

For socks maybe look for silk?

Here are silk sock liners which will be very thin and not too tight

Op here. Thank you the recs! I'll click through these in more detail.
tonight. I wish boots were cheaper, but our hand me downs just have not worked, so I might have to suck it up and pay retail.

I had not thought about silk or thermasilk sock liners. Great idea! Thanks!

Have you tried SmartWool?
I have a child covered in eczema who is very sensitive about what he wears and he loves them. Sometimes when his hands hurt, he wears the smartwool socks on his hands. They are really warm and LLBean has them... Because they are expensive, and LLBean will take anything back, maybe give that a try?

(I'm wearing some lady ones now.

Muck Boots or similar - pretty comfortable on the feet. Consider two layers of socks - one the comfy sock and the second warmer sock. Keep in mid that winter boots SHOULD be a little too big - ties shouldn't be near touching. You want space for a layer of warm air and room for warm socks. (Signed, a Minnesotan)

My DS has a pair of Bogs Kids Classic boots he absolutely loves. They work for both rain and snow. No zippers, velcro or laces. They have neoprene uppers with handles that are a) flexible, b) smooth and c) easy for kids to pull on.

He's had Kamiks every other year for snow, but I think we're Bogs converts now.

Try small birds or emu
Both work great for us

We have the Costco version. Love them. They were $10 or so. Makes more sense than snow boots in our area.

Can you use these for play in powdery snow, or would snow fall down from the top?

What about those bamboo socks? Probably not warm enough but thought maybe the soft texture might work? They sell them at Kohl's.
