| What are the best language immersion schools? Coming from parents who have had their kids in them these schools? |
|
Oyster Adams
YY LAMB (scandal notwithstanding, the academic record is strong) My kids went to LAMB and have been well prepared for middle and high school. So have their classmates from Oyster and YY. |
| However, good luck getting into language immersion schools - they are all fairly good, and fairly competitive. |
Yes, I see that they are very competitive |
|
Move to the Oyster Adams district, and you will get it for K. Maybe PK4 if you are lucky (unless your children's first language is spanish).
Elsie Whitlow Stokes is opening a new campus EOTR next fall; will be the best opportunity to get into that school in years. |
| We've had a great experience at Powell. |
Isn't it extremely difficult to get into Powell and Oyster of you're child will be OOB? Like pretty much impossible? |
Oyster yes, Powell maybe not impossible. |
Unless your child is Spanish dominant, you can forget about Oyster for PK4. There are 30/36 PK slots reserved for Spanish dominant students. The remaining 6 slots go to IB students with siblings already attending Oyster. |
Yeah I'm not listing Oyster. I'm pretty aware of the obstacles there. And it's also a little bit farther than I want to commute |
| Marie Reed? |
| Don’t forget about Bruce Monroe. Same scores and demographics as Powell. It’s getting better slowly, but PK and K are good. |
| Cleveland! The school overall has had problems, but the Spanish immersion side is A++++. Two kids in the program. Have been there 4 years and wouldn’t switch. |
| I heard Cleveland is also heard to get into if you are English dominant OOB. We are at MV and are happy. But if you want to know for sure your kid can go to an immersion school, I'd move in bounds for Oyster or Powell. |
|
If you are OOB the DCPS immersion’s are all hard or impossible to get into for English-dominant children. I think Tyler is the one exception.
But most wouldn’t call it the “best.” But with the lottery your chance is as good as anyone’s at one of the immersion charters. |
