| i find that we spend so much money eating out on weekends. but, i can't seem to muster any energy to be in the kitchen. we either eat out just to break the day up or to meet people out for entertainment purposes. just wondering about others... |

I love to cook the family dinner on Sundays -- we eat early, like 4:30 / 5:00 and have dessert around 7 pm.
Roasted chicken, pasta and meatballs, meat loaf are all easy to make. |
| I ONLY cook on weekends! Too busy/tired during the week. |
| Lately it seems like we've been saving takeout for a weeknight break from cooking - we almost always cook on the weekends, usually something that takes a little too much time for a weeknight. |
| we used to eat 3 meals a day out on weekends. Not only did it get really expensive, but even though we ate a nicer places (sit down with table service, not fast food) I think we all feel better eating at home, where we can control the proportion of fruits and veggies and amount of butter/grease used in the meals. My husband cannot so much as boil an egg, though, so all the cooking for the family falls on me--which is pretty annoying if I'm having a busy week. |
| I cook a large meal on Sunday too and try to do something like the PP said, roasted chicken, etc that will have leftovers so I don't have to cook on Monday night too. BONUS! |
| I always cook on the weekends I cook too much so there are plenty of leftovers. I usually do not get home until seven or later during the week. We will order takeout once during the week. |
Yes, I cook alot on the weekends especially if we have no plans. We entertain alot too so it always involves food. Since hubby is home on weekends, I can usually cook more elaborate meals.

Yes, we mix it up but we do cook and eat in quite a bit on the weekends. My parents live fairly close by (about 90 minutes away) so they come every few weeks and DH and I try to have a dinner out. And we take DD out every once in a while for lunch or an early dinner.
But otherwise, what we try to do is cook 2 big meals on the weekends so we have a Sunday night, Monday night meal, and then something to freeze for the end of the week. Tuesday and Wednesday, we have several quick and healthy meals DH usually prepares for us. We might get take out once or twice every couple weeks and every once in a while, it's fun to pull out an Amy's frozen spinach pizza and have a few beers or a glass of wine on a Saturday night - whoo hoo! Delicious and at least not totally unhealthy. |
| We only eat out about once a month. The extra calories and expense add up too quickly. |
| With tween and teen kids, we all zip out of here in the a.m., though occasionally DH makes pancakes or we go out for breakfast if nobody has an early game, meet or community service gig on Saturday morning or, on Sunday, if we're not going to church until later. Saturday lunch is usually on the run, with everybody going in different directions. Saturday night: we might be entertaining, going out as a family to the home of friends or to a restaurant, or having date night, or teen DS going out with pals. Sunday lunch: DH makes grilled cheese sandwiches for everyone -- he takes special orders and adds apple slices, tomato, etc. Sunday dinner -- the best part of the weekend: I cook or DH grills in good weather -- put on some great music, make something everybody loves (roast chicken, lasagna, tacos, etc.), eat in the dining room or outside if weather is nice. We love the Sunday meal traditions -- they center us and are much more relaxed than going to a restaurant. Also, kids help with cooking and cleaning up -- very important to develop those life skills and a sense that you pitch in to make a nice meal for your family. |
| We bought a good pizza stone from Williams Sonoma and it was a great investment--makes homemade pizza so much better than just using a pan. We use it every weekend. |
| We eat Trader Joe's Food. It tastes good, is priced reasonably, often needs minimal preparation, and they have healthy foods. |

I guess I am odd here. I almost never eat out. I put together any thing for dinner, usually from scratch. Tonight it was chicken scraped off a carcass, warmed with garlic, butter and olive oil. Some plain past with oil, and Parmesan cheese. A sliced tomato on the side. Dessert was a slice of plain pound cake. I don't lie to spend money on dinners out. Sometimes we just have toast and cheese or just veggies for dinner.
I work long hours (doctor), but I health conscious, so I prefer to eat at home. |
| I cook on sunday night or at least prepare for the monday / tuesday dinners. But the weekend itself, sat and sunday, I do minimal cooking. My dd is 1 and her food preparation is easy, so I don't have to worry about her meal, and as for the two of us, either we get by on the week's left-overs or do something simple, sandwiches / salad / boiled potatoes in skin / tuna, or dh does grill. |
