Private & Independent Schools
During an open house we heard much about Sidwell's emphasis on educating tomorrow's global leaders. This was several years ago. At some point someone tossed out how many countries were represented at Sidwell. I forget the number, but it was high. Since then I've noticed that every single student I personally know (children of friends) has at least one foreign parent. I bumped into an old friend at Union Station last winter, she's European, her husband, too, and learned that her child was attending Sidwell. Can anyone comment on this? Maybe this cluster is an aberration, but it's mystifying.
It's cool and PC to be global. |
Well FWIW we know the cluster of African American families and prominent Democrats whose children attend Sidwell.
WTF is that supposed to mean?
Does not mean anything. Just facts.
Sidwell parent here. There are plenty of kids with one or both foreign-born parents, and plenty of kids with two American born parents. By rough estimate, the proportion of foreign born parents is similar to most other private schools, but much lower than WIS.
What "facts" are you referring to? And what "cluster" of African American families are you referring to? Are you saying you know ALL the AA families at Sidwell? I rather doubt it.
We too have noticed the number of kids with one foreign parent at Sidwell (even DC noticed this and mentioned it to me one day). However, we also know some international families where the U.S. posting was temporary, just a few years, and these kids were rejected/waitlisted despite otherwise stellar qualifications. I assume this is because the school is also looking for permanent relationships.
Exactly. It was an incredibly stupid post and a worse follow up. |
10:11 OP here. Thanks. I know a student who was accepted to an upper grade, a parent holds a post and will rotate to another after several years so the school seems willing to accept when chances are slim the student will graduate.
