Univ of Florida - Reach School

Anonymous
DD is a junior and has fallen in love with Florida. Unfortunately, her stats (GPA and SAT) make this a reach school for her.
Any suggestions on what she can do (other than improve test scores, which we are working on) that may increase her chances.

Plan on paying full price and make that clear on the application.

This. She has a good chance of getting in simply because she is out of state.
Not a great school....but it’s a school.

I am from Florida. Why would you pay full price for UF? Does she want to wrestle gators?

Well, aren't you a pretentious ass. I guess only HYPS make the cut for you as a "great school" and everything else is a school. Some people on here are insufferable.

If DD had great stats then we would be looking at great schools. Unfortunately, she does not have that luxury. News flash, not everyone does.

It is ranked (USNWR #42) ahead of other good state schools including Wisconsin (46), Penn State (52), Ohio State (54), Georgia (54), Texas (56), UMD (61).

OP here. Yes, you nailed it exactly. Thanks for the help.

Honestly, time is better spent identifying good matches and safeties than obsessing over admission to a reach. What is it that she loves about UF? How do the universities of Alabama, Georgia, Delaware, Arizona and/or South Carolina stack up (as far as what she's looking for, rankings aside)? San Diego State or South Florida?

I graduated from UF. It's a fine school and I had a great time there. What I did was I went to Sante Fe community college, got my AA and transferred in. I never even took the SATs. Also, I worked while down there, established residency and paid 1/3 of what I would have paid coming in from out of state.

I don't think obsessing was ever claimed by OP.
All these responses and still no one has answered her question but instead everyone feels the need to give opinions on why they don't like Florida as a school.
Read the questions people - if you have any suggestions great, and if not, keep your rude opinions to yourself.

You read poorly--both the OP's post and the helpful one you just maligned.

Are there any in-state schools that are within reach for your DD?

Wow. So much hate for UF. I graduated from there about 15 years ago and had a great experience. Like most big schools there are so many different scenes that you can really find anything you’re looking for. My friends have really run the spectrum on where they end up. I just made partner in big law and my best friend is a lobbyist. Another friend is an advertising exec and another is a doctor. We have all done very well and didn’t spend a fortune on undergrad. Good luck to OP’s daughter.

That's it - now start insulting even though you are wrong.

OP asked a simple question. "Any suggestions on what she can do (other than improve test scores, which we are working on) that may increase her chances."
