wait lists and gender

does anyone know if gender is a factor for DC public wait lists (both charter and DCPS). do they just take students in order or might they pass over one in favor of balancing out gender in the class?

gender can not be considered - it is a straight waitlist

No, that's only applicable at private schools. It is against the law in public schools. The only point of preference on a DC public waitlist is whether or not the student has a sibling already enrolled in the school (that moves you to the front of the line).

Having said that, there is one DC public school - Oyster - which maintains two waitlists: one English-speaking and one Spanish-speaking.
