Planning an “adventure” with extended family for summer 2019 - ideas?

Anonymous
My family is DH, me, and two kids (ages 9 & 6 that summer). Will also include extended family. We have fun traveling together and everyone is in good shape and up for adventure. We had a wonderful trip through several National Parks in the southwest last summer and want to plan our next trip. The only thing we don’t like is outdoor camping, but cabins are okay.

Considering Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Also considering a cabin on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Would like to keep flight times under 5-6 hours.

What would you do?

If you are thinking New Hampshire, I would consider doing Acadia actually. Here is a good guide:

I'd also look into Banff (beautiful in the summer), Crater Lake and/or a rafting trip. See example below of rafting - your kids would need to be a year older to do the Rogue River like us - but this one would work this year:

I second Acadia in Maine. We went for a week this past summer and it was wonderful.

Acadia is beautiful but hardly what I'd call an adventure. Hiking is limited, the park is crowded, and there's not much else to do beyond the park.

I recommend Glacier National Park, Banff, or Olympic National Park. Olympic is the most diverse of the three - you can explore a rainforest, take an alpine hike, take the ferry over to Canada for a day, and explore tidepools and spits. At Glacier you can do rafting and ziplining.

Sorry to hijack, but if this poster can come back and tell more about their Oregon trip I would appreciate it. We are planning an Oregon road trip next summer including 3 nights on the Rogue (Overnights in lodges) with touring Columbia River Gorge/Bend/Crater Lake on one side of it and Newport/Bannon Beach the other side of it. Looking for any "don't miss" or things to skip--TIA! (Kids 14 and 10)

With those aged kids, I would do a vacation to see all the castles in North Wales. The area is beautiful, there are lots of outdoor activities, and my kids literally climbed castles for a week straight. We had my elderly parents with us and they also had a great time.

The Channel Islands are also a great vacation.
