| Scary story in the Post today (sorry can't link) about how a 3 yr old was given to the wrong person at pickup. The article suggested they mixed up kids because of bulky winter clothes. It worked out ok here, but it could have had tragic consequences. Hardly inspires confidence in the school. |

| This is the weirdest ever. A 3 year old didn't know they were leaving with the wrong person? The adult (says it was supposedly his niece he was getting, not his kid) didn't interact with the child at all, or enough to know? WTF? |
|
I haven't read the article yet but I have worked in prek classrooms and when an uncle or grandma or aunt or whoever comes to pick up the kid and the teacher/para/sub doesn't recognize them, 8/10 the adult is rude and annoyed when asked for an ID.
The staff member totally messed up and there is no excuse for this but I just wanted to share my experience. You'd think all caregivers would be glad to show ID to keep up safe practices but people are so mean about it. |
What kind of moron picks up the wrong kid and leaves?! WTF indeed! |
| And at what time did he pick her up? The police was only called at 7:28pm!!!! Shameful and scary! |
| This is our school. It’s a good school but has had the worst luck. Glad the child was returned safely. There are people who pick up neighbors kids, etc. |
. They said the child was with the stranger for an hour. This is terrifying! |
Sorry that isn't luck. Even if people pick up neighborhood's kids, there has to be a way to verify it before releasing a 3 yr old. |
I always thank staff/teachers for keeping my kid safe when they've asked me to show ID (beginning of the year, new teacher, etc). Thank you for continuing to ask despite the rudeness from some people. |
eeeehhhh... I remember on the tour learning about the student:teacher ratio during aftercare and it was kinda alarming. Also the principal was a jerk. |
| What happened to the kid who was supposed to be picked up? And you'd think they would have noticed the mistake when the parents of the 3 year old arrived and couldn't find their child. This article raises so many questions. |
Are you faulting a 3 year old for this incident?!. Unless taught, I doubt a 3 year old would say anything; probably thought mom or dad had someone pick them up due to working late or something. I feel terrible for that child as he/she was probably frightened but couldn’t express himself. |
What is terrifying is that a 3 year old is left at an elementary school until 6:30. Is that really how late aftercare is available for 3 year olds? When 6:35 roles around on a Friday I have to believe the aftercare workers are calling everyone on the remaining kid's (the one who really should have gone home with the uncle) emergency contact list. And then the parents of the missing kid show up. Obviously the should have figured out what happened before 7:30. I still don't understand why there is pre-k for 3 year olds at elementary schools. They should be located somewhere else. Elementary schools have enough to deal with. |
| This is really outrageous. |
