How can International students get aid to pay for their studies

Anonymous
I am an International student and I am studying my MBA at Shenandoah. Does anyone know of ways that I can get sponsorship so that I finish my studies. I have tried loans but they require co-signers and I am still new in America so I really do not know that many people. If you have ideas , please assist. Thank you and God bless.

I know this is going to come across rude - but I thought that International Students needed to provide evidence that they could pay tuition before being granted a Student Visa.

But to answer your question - why don't you reach back to your home country? There is reasons why loans require co-signers, there is a large risk that you will not pay back the loan, return to your country of origin and the bank will be left with an bad loan that they need to write off.

Financial aid is generally not available to international students. I don't have a problem with this (I was once an international student myself); I think it should be reserved for US students.

get a job while in school. might have to take off a semester. Aid should go to citizens first. I sympathize but a lot of non international kids are having a tough time getting loans and funding,

People who are on a student visa may not be authorized to legally work in the U.S.

I'm an immigrant turned citizen and I cannot believe how soon you got replies saying it should be for citizens only, go back to your home country etc etc
As if our home countries do not help US students in return, as if we should be grateful to be here

Welcome to America - you obviously got your first dose of a culture shock.

disclaimer: I do not mean by the post to assert myself as somehow in charge of this board, this is meant to explain my perception of the nature of the responses.

It is not malice, this is just the wrong group of people to be asking this question of.

This is a forum that generally is visited by parents of minors living in the DC metro area. The schools discussion is not usually addressing graduate school financing but local elementary, middle and high school. Your graduate school should have information on financial options, including grants and scholarships.

Good luck to you.

You can work on campus either as a TA or a RA. If you have an engineering background, you can ask the professors in math or computer sciences if they need some TA.

I feel the same way. Really not trying to be mean or insensative. I think it is wonderful that so many students come and contribute here. It's a matter of limited resources though as far as getting aid for studies. You can still go back to your country most likely as an option. Others who are only us citizens can't go somewhere else. The international student may come here for education and leave, that's fine but coming to get aid and then leaving (which often happens) seems wrong.

I just can't see federal or state tax dollars going to international students first with so many needy.
